Goodbye 2011!

Another year is almost gone! I can't believe it. 2011 just flew by for me. It was amazing and hectic and wonderful, but now I can't wait for 2012 and all it will bring. And since it's New Year's Eve, I figured I'd talk a little about resolutions and books and writing for this post.

Last year, I had one resolution for 2011. It was to read 100 books within the year. I really, really didn't believe I would actually make this. I figured I was shooting way over on this. I've never kept track of how many books I read before so I had no idea really how many I normally read in a year. This year I kept track. And ya know what? I made my goal and some! I've read 108 books this year. (And no, I didn't neglect my job, house chores, social life, ect, to meet this goal.) So, since I read so many, I thought I'd share some of my favorites from this year. There were so, so many books that were amazing but I don't want a huge list so I'm just gonna go with my favorite 10 for the year. (In no particular order) (Also, click on the pictures if you want a link to their Goodreads' description)

Okay, so that was 12 because I just couldn't narrow it down anymore and I didn't want to have just one book in it's own row. (ummm OCD?)

So yeah, 2011 was a great year for books, but I know tons more amazing books are going to be coming out in 2012 too and I can't wait! But for this coming year, my resolution won't be about reading. I'm going to focus more on my writing. I've decided that my resolution for 2012 is to finish the book I'm writing--first draft, edits, revising, all of it--and get it into the dreaded querying phase. (I'm at about halfway through writing my first draft for this WiP)Which means, a lot less slacking for me. This month, with all the holiday preparations and such, I barely got any writing done. I just finished a chapter yesterday that I started at the beginning of December! Crazy. (Usually I'm not that slow) You can see though that I need to step it up a bit.

So that's my resolution. What about yours? Any other reading or writing related resolutions out there or any just in general? I'd love to hear them!

Have a fun, happy, spectacularly amazing New year and stay safe!

Hope all of you are having a great holiday with friends and family! Maybe reading curled up by a fire--that would be awesome! Too bad I don't have a fireplace. Anyway, have a Merry Christmas!

Christmas is so busy!

Hello lovely readers, it has been such a busy couple of weeks lately. Christmas and work and everything in between. I've been doing shopping, making a tacky/ugly sweater for my work's Christmas party, wrapping presents and doing quite a bit of painting for some porcelain ornaments and such. And in all of that, I haven't had a chance to get any real writing done. I'm itching to get some in, but I think it's going to have to wait until my break starts. For now, I need to finish up all the holiday things, like baking cookies and cupcakes!

One thing that I have gotten to do related to books and writing and all was that I got to meet Cassandra Clare (author of the Mortal Instruments series and Infernal Devices trilogy) and Michelle Hodkins (author of TheUnbecoming of Mara Dyer)! I love both of their books and it was such a great time seeing the two authors talk about their books and get mine signed. If there's ever something that can get you out of a writing slump, I think it's hearing an author talk about their books and their journey about how they got where they are.

Anyway, enough talking! How about some pictures!

It's always so exciting to meet an author(s) that you admire and love their work. How about you guys? Have any of you met any authors that you love?

Changes to the blog

Lately I've been debating on what to do with this blog and it's been a hard decision for me. I don't want to let go of it completely, but at the same time, doing reviews has been feeling more like a chore or homework that I need to do but keep pushing off. I already feel like I have so little time (work has been ridiculously busy & tiring, edits need done for friends, and I'm hardly even getting any writing done now too which makes me pretty sad, and that, you know, not including regular adult chores and such that always seem to be piling up!). So yeah, my reviews keep getting pushed and pushed until I feel guilty for not posting any.

I love book reviews. And I love positive book reviews even more. But I've come to the realization that I'm not in love with doing them. That's not to say that I won't ever mention a book I really enjoyed or talk about specific ones though. I think I've decided to take this blog and gear it more towards my writing journey while also still being able to tell people if there was an amazing book I just finished or what books I'm excited about that are coming out. And then, of course, I still want to keep giveaway! Because what's better than sharing awesome books?!

Anyway, I hope to see you all still here as this blog progresses and changes, but if my new blog turns out to not being your cup of tea, I'll understand...sniff sniff.... :)

Winner!

Congrats to M.A.D.! for winning the books Need and Captivate by Carrie Jones.
