Blogoversary Giveaway!!

Hey, lovely readers! So this month I had my first anniversary on blogger (or blogoversary) Yay! And wow! has it been an amazing and wonderful year on here. I don't know if I've ever told you guys how or why I started this blog, so....story time! (It'll be short! I promise)

A little more than a year ago (because technically my blogoversary was on the 13th of this month-not the 30th) I had written a book and was lost with it, floating in a sea of writing and information overload--because I did do my research (on agents, writing, and the industry), but I wanted more. So, I turned to blogger. Just peeking around really at other blogs. But I didn't get involved, not at first.

Not until my hubby asked me why I didn't just start my own blog (which I bet he regrets now. lol b/c now I buy so many more books than I used to. But I can't help it. I see so many great reviews from other blogs or other posts that get me excited for upcoming blogs that I have to get them!)

So anyway, I did. I started this blog. And I loved it. It makes me happy to share my love of books to others, no matter how wide or narrow my audience reach is. I also got more involved. Following other blogs and learning more about the writing industry and everything that it encompasses. I also learned about Twitter from being on here (yeah I was clueless about Twitter too) and with Twitter I met so many amazing people. And I can't imagine where I'd be now without those people. I've been helped and encouraged and made awesome friendships with so many wonderful people. So thanks to all of you!

And there you have it. My little blogger beginning. But now, on to the good stuff! Because if you read this blog title then you know there should be a giveaway in here somewhere. And here is! Whoohoo! Throw confetti and celebrate!!*hem...okay, yes, I'm calm now.

Okay, here's what you can win: Cryer's Cross by Lisa McMann, The Water Wars by Cameron Stracher, Claire de Lune by Christine Johnson along with a few temporary tattoo's inspired by Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instrument series and an Across the Universe pin button (AtU by Beth Revis).

One person will win all of it! Since this is for my blogoversary and not just a random giveaway, I'd like to do this for my followers. So if you follow me then go ahead and enter! (And if you don't...well, you can always click the follow button ---> ) U.S. entrees only please.

Winner will be chosen July 15th!

So what are you waiting for? Leave a comment saying you want to be entered (and make sure you add your email so I can email you if you win).

Summer, wishes, and more!

Hello, lovely readers! How are you all doing? How are your summers going so far? Lots of stuff happening with me lately. Fun stuff and other things.

How about a list to show you what I've been up to. Complete with illustrations! Yay! (warning: lots of YAY!'s in this post)

1. School is out and now I'm on break just like my little students! YAY! (However, I'm teaching summer school and unfortunately that means my break is only about a week and a half)
2. Because of summer break, I've been able to do a couple things. Like hang out with some uber awesome writer friends. Danielle, my CP, came down from MA to visit and also introduced me to her writery friend, Patricia. We toured D.C. and such. This is us right before we threw pennies in the fountain and made a wish on the "author" side of the fountain! (Order: Danielle, Me, Patricia)
3. I've also been able to read TONS of awesome books with the extra time. YAY! I love it!
4. I've started watching one of my lil students as a part time job for over the summer and he likes this show called Oobi and It. Is. Strange.

5. I've done hours of plotting on my new WIP. I mean HOURS! Exhausting. But good and necessary. (not a pic of my plotting board but you get the idea)

6. And because of all the plotting...I can now start actually writing!! Daunting but still YAY! So what about you guys? What have you all been up to? Anything fun? Hope so!

Review: Hourglass

One hour to rewrite the past . . .

For seventeen-year-old Emerson Cole, life is about seeing what isn’t there: swooning Southern Belles; soldiers long forgotten; a haunting jazz trio that vanishes in an instant. Plagued by phantoms since her parents’ death, she just wants the apparitions to stop so she can be normal. She’s tried everything, but the visions keep coming back.

So when her well-meaning brother brings in a consultant from a secretive organization called the Hourglass, Emerson’s willing to try one last cure. But meeting Michael Weaver may not only change her future, it may change her past.

Who is this dark, mysterious, sympathetic guy, barely older than Emerson herself, who seems to believe every crazy word she says? Why does an electric charge seem to run through the room whenever he’s around? And why is he so insistent that he needs her help to prevent a death that never should have happened?

I had pretty high expectations for this book after all that I had heard about it from just about everyone that got an early copy and let me tell you, it did not disappoint!

Em was such an amazing character. One that, despite so much sarcasm from her (or maybe because of it--yeah more like because of it), I wish she was real and my friend. She was a hilarious and strong character. And then there's Michael and Kaleb. Two guys that couldn't be more different and I loved them both. Kaleb was so charming and a bit rakish while Michael was sweet, mysterious, and sometimes even frustrating (in the best ways). All the characters, not just the main ones, were great. I really did love them all.

The plot was simply perfect. It was such a fresh story with so many wonderful things in it and twists that I didn't even see coming! It was just fantastic. It kept me wanting to keep turning the page. I think I read this book in two days and would have finished it in one sitting if I could have.

This book made me laugh, swoon at the boys, and even cry. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an amazing read (and who isn't, really?). Hourglass by Myra McEntire comes out TODAY! June 14, 2011 so go pick it up!

ps-isn't the cover gorgeous!

Hunger Games Parody

Haha. This made me laugh, so I thought I'd share it.

I love how Peeta has so many different baked goods in the middle of the woods.

Review: Hereafter

Can there truly be love after death?

Drifting in the dark waters of a mysterious river, the only thing Amelia knows for sure is that she's dead. With no recollection of her past life—or her actual death—she's trapped alone in a nightmarish existence. All of this changes when she tries to rescue a boy, Joshua, from drowning in her river. As a ghost, she can do nothing but will him to live. Yet in an unforgettable moment of connection, she helps him survive.

Amelia and Joshua grow ever closer as they begin to uncover the strange circumstances of her death and the secrets of the dark river that held her captive for so long. But even while they struggle to keep their bond hidden from the living world, a frightening spirit named Eli is doing everything in his power to destroy their newfound happiness and drag Amelia back into the ghost world . . . forever.

I loved this story. It was such a unique take on a ghost story. I really enjoyed that it was from the ghost's point of view. Tara Hudson also does a great job showing how Amelia can and can't feel certain things. The descriptions were just beautiful.

The story unfolds with just bits and pieces of Amelia's story and was so well done! The way the reader was only given a little at a time really kept me wanting to turn the page to find out more. I think I read this book in two days and would have read it even quicker if my ipad hadn't died for a little while!

The chemistry between Amelia and Joshua was really nice and believable, and I loved the problems that came along with one of them being a ghost and one a human. It was so interesting. They also made me really want to root for them the whole time!

I also really enjoyed the dynamics between Eli and Amelia as well. The push and pull between them was perfect. Eli is a great villain because he's more than just the bad guy. He's not a flat character at all but has layers that pull you in and make you interested in him, dislike him, and feel for him too.

So, I really liked this book and would recommend it to anyone looking for a unique ghost story! The end sums up the story pretty well but there is a small cliffhanger (not an "Oh-my-gosh!-How-could-the-writer-do-that-to-me" cliffhanger) but a small one. And I definitely can't wait for the next book!

Hereafter by Tara Hudson came out June 7th, 2011!~

The Mark Giveaway

Here's another giveaway! The Mark by M.R. Bunderson

She's had it forever. A tiny mark on her hand. No big deal, right? But when Tori discovers that her ordinary freckle is really some kind of microscopic tattoo, she doesn't know what to think, especially after meeting Eric, a guy she feels strangely connected to--and not just because he has a mark too.

All too soon, Tori and Eric realize that their marks are only the first clue to a mystery that will change everything. And with each new discovery, Tori finds herself pulled deeper and deeper into a world she could never have imagined.

Hey guys,
I just wanted to say sorry for the lack of posts. I was working on a stop animation video to go along with a review I am going to do, so that was taking time. And then I needed to just take a break from everything because of this last weekend. On Sunday, a neighbor needed help and I had to give him CPR and then on Tuesday, I was informed he didn't make it. So if you all would keep his family (and me too please) in your thoughts and prayers I would appreciate it.

So that's why I've been a bit absent lately, but I'll be back with quite a few review next week and in the mean time, how about another giveaway? I'll post info on it on my next post.
