Happy New Year!

Hey friends,

I've been a little quiet lately--busy with Christmas and then dying the day after. Seriously, I got soooo sick on Sunday and felt like I was dying. A stomach bug took over and decided I shouldn't do anything except slowly wither away to nothing....alright I may be exaggerating *slightly* but needless to say, the last couple days weren't all that fun and that's why I haven't had a chance to post anything new.

But enough about that, I wanna know how your holiday was! Did you do anything special or fun? Are you guys excited for New Years? My friend and critique partner, Danielle, has a Goodbye 2010 & Hello 2011 segement that you guys should check out! One of the 2011 posts that she's putting up will be from me :)

Oh also, lovely readers, I got a chance to read an early copy of Across the Universe by Beth Revis and wow! It was awesome. I'll have a review up soon and a special giveaway for it in January, so make sure you come back for that!

Happy New Year Everybody!

This was one of my favorite New Year's celebrations! What's better than ringing in the New Year with friends and fireworks? How do you celebrate New Year's?

(Picture 1: Starting the new year by burning our regrets from last year. We wrote out regrets on a piece of paper, stuff them in the scarecrow [why a scarecrow? I dunno. It's a custom/tradition somewhere that I can't remember that our friend started with us] and burning the regrets to start fresh in the new year)

(Picture 2: Yup, that's me! Doing a fire dancing [fire poi] show for my friends!)

(Picture 3: My friend lit all the fireworks and this picture is an awesome looking result from that. Don't worry, it was much safer than the picture makes it out to look!)

Review: Crave

Crave by Laura J. Burns & Melinda Metz

Shay has had a rare blood disorder since she was born. In fact, her mother married one of Shay’s doctors, Martin, who left his world-renowned leukemia research to try and figure out exactly what the disorder is and how to cure it. When she turns seventeen, Martin begins to give her new blood transfusions that make her feel the strongest she has ever felt. But she also has odd visions where she sees through the eyes of a vampire.

I liked the idea of this book. I liked how it was different from other vampire books out there; that it was about a sick girl getting blood transfusions and that she got visions from them. It sounded pretty interesting. I thought the story was good & I liked the way it unfolded, but occasionally the character, Shay, annoyed me. When she was feeling good, she did whatever she wanted regardless of the results. I understand why she was like that and thought it was needed for the books. It's just that sort of personality doesn't mesh well me w/ so once in a while she got a little annoying to me, but that's not to say she wasn't a well developed character because I think she was. I liked the character of Gabriel a lot though and thought that he was well developed, maybe even more so than Shay. The one main thing that bothered me was that sometimes it felt like the characters did or said things only because they seemed like those were things teenagers were supposed to do/say, so it didn't always feel authentic to me. Otherwise, I still liked the book, especially the ending. It was a great ending to keep the reader wanting more and waiting for the sequel. I don't know when the sequel comes out or what it's called yet, but I'll be picking it up from my library when it comes out.~

Review: Raised by Wolves

Raised by Wolves by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

Adopted by the Alpha of a werewolf pack after a rogue wolf brutally killed her parents right before her eyes, fifteen-year-old Bryn knows only pack life, and the rigid social hierarchy that controls it. That doesn't mean that she's averse to breaking a rule or two.

But when her curiosity gets the better of her and she discovers Chase, a new teen locked in a cage in her guardian's basement, and witnesses him turn into a wolf before her eyes, the horrific memories of her parents' murders return. Bryn becomes obsessed with getting her questions answered, and Chase is the only one who can provide the information she needs.

But in her drive to find the truth, will Bryn push too far beyond the constraints of the pack, forcing her to leave behind her friends, her family, and the identity that she's shaped?

I don't know why I didn't pick this book up sooner. I think I didn't read it earlier was because I figured it was just another werewolf story and I'd read quite a few of them lately, but I'm glad I finally did. It was a good read and a very different take from other werewolf stories out there. I loved the character of Bryn and thought that, overall, all the characters were developed nicely. The pacing was great, even though I wanted to see more of Bryn and Chase (yes, I love to see the romantic interaction stuff!), I didn't get bored when they weren't interacting together because everything else that was going on in the story kept the pace up really well. I also like how the twists and turns unfolded and the ending left me wanting more. This is one that I will be continuing to read the series in and would recommend for a good read. The sequel, Trial by Fire, is set to be released June 14th, 2011.

City of Fallen Angels

If you haven't seen it yet, the cover for City of Fallen Angels has been released! Take a look at the prettiness that it is!
City of Fallen Angels is the fourth book in the bestselling series The Mortal Instruments.

“Love, blood, betrayal and revenge — the stakes are higher than ever in City of Fallen Angels. Simon Lewis is having some trouble adjusting to his new life as a vampire, especially now that he hardly sees his best friend Clary, who is caught up in training to be a Shadowhunter—and spending time with her new boyfriend Jace. Not to mention that Simon doesn’t quite know how to handle the pressure of not-quite-dating two girls at once. What’s a daylight-loving vampire to do? Simon decides he needs a break and heads out of the city—only to discover that sinister events are following him. Realizing that the war they thought they’d won might not yet be over, Simon has to call on his Shadowhunter friends to save the day — if they can put their own splintering relationships on hold long enough to rise to the challenge.”

It comes out April 5th, 2011 and I can't wait! If you haven't started this series, what are you waiting for? They are amazing! You can check out my review for the first 3 here.

Nightshade Winner!

Sorry it's so late in the day! I've been super busy. You might have noticed, at some point, that little counter bar on the left side of my blog that says Siren Song, and you also might have noticed that it now says 100%! Yay!
Yup, I finished the first draft of my WIP and it was just in time too because I have been extra busy with getting ready for the holidays these last few days!

So, yeah...sorry for the delay in the winner and for the lack of posts lately. I will remedy that!

And now, what you all really want to know: the winner is:
Jen R.

Congrats Jen and I hope you love the book as much as I did!

Across the Universe by Beth Revis

Seventeen-year-old Amy joins her parents as frozen cargo aboard the vast spaceship Godspeed and expects to awaken on a new planet, three hundred years in the future. Never could she have known that her frozen slumber would come to an end fifty years too soon and that she would be thrust into the brave new world of a spaceship that lives by its own rules.

Amy quickly realizes that her awakening was no mere computer malfunction. Someone--one of the few thousand inhabitants of the spaceship--tried to kill her. And if Amy doesn't do something soon, her parents will be next.

Now Amy must race to unlock Godspeed's hidden secrets. But out of her list of murder suspects, there's only one who matters: Elder, the future leader of the ship and the love she could never have seen coming.
