Who's excited?

Who's excited about tomorrow?! Oh, oh! I am! I am!

Well, if I'm being completely honest I'm half dreading it and half excited over it. Dreading, you ask? Yes, but not because of any awesome book related stuff. Unfortunately, I have a dentist appointment tomorrow. Why? Oh, just because I broke my tooth over the weekend, that's all. I went in today and now have to go back tomorrow to get a crown or something (and probably a couple more visits after that. YUCK!) I've never had a crown before! What am I to expect at this next visit?! (I have an amazingly large and irrational fear of the dentist...no lie. I almost cried when I got the numbing shot and needles aren't a problem for me, just being there is. Believe me! I've got an enormous tattoo as proof that I don't mind needles, but anything in my mouth and all of a sudden I'm a trembling little baby...boo.)

On to the good stuff! YAY!

Tomorrow one lucky comment-er (yes, I think I just made that up) will win a copy of Firelight by Sophie Jordan and will get it mailed to them on the day it comes out! So, lovely readers, if you haven't already entered then just comment below on the Firelight post a couple down!

Also, more awesome news!! Kiersten White's debut YA novel Paranormalcy comes out tomorrow! Along with Gena Showalter's Unraveled which is the sequel to Intertwined. I've been eagerly, EAGERLY! anticipating these two books! So check them out when you can! I know I will.

What books that are coming out are you guys anxious to get your hands on?

This is my tooth. Boo...

Firelight Review & GIVEAWAY!

With her rare ability to breathe fire, Jacinda is special even among the draki—the descendants of dragons who can shift between human and dragon forms. But when Jacinda’s rebelliousness leads her family to flee into the human world, she struggles to adapt, even as her draki spirit fades. The one thing that revives it is Will, whose family hunts her kind. Jacinda can’t resist getting closer to him, even though she knows she’s risking not only her life but the draki’s most closely guarded secret

I've never been a big fan of dragon stories, but I really enjoyed this book! It was a fresh take on dragons from anything (that I've at least read) involving them. I read it all in one sitting and I really can't wait until I can get my hands on the next one.

I really liked the writing style that Sophie Jordan uses. It's clean, descriptive, and flowing. The story kept me intrigued the whole time and I enjoyed the character interaction.

I especially liked the relationship between Jacinda and her twin sister, Tamra. I'm a twin myself (along with having 5 more sisters and honestly the relationship b/w a twin and another sister really is a little different) Anyway, I felt as if Sophie really captured the relationship between the twins sisters-who are both vying to be their own person and to be accepted as such. They didn't always get along--especially since they both felt trapped in who they were because of something, at one point or another, to do with the other--yet there was still always that underlying love between them. Perfect.

The relationship between Will and Jacinda was strained, confusing, and magnetic. They couldn't seem to stay away from each other even though they knew they should have. I loved a lot of the interaction between them. I also liked how it wasn't just that Jacinda swooned at the first cute boy she saw, but that part of why she was drawn to him had been b/c he saved her even when he didn't know it was her.

All in all, the book was terrific. There were parts that had me feeling all gooey and heartwarming, parts that had me laughing, and parts that had me trying not to skip my eyes ahead b/c I couldn't read it fast enough! I'd recommend this book to anyone that loves YA paranormal. Also, I defy anyone to not love this cover! It's beautiful. I would have picked this book up based on the cover alone.

*Contest is closed now. Thank you to all who entered!*

So Very Excited!

The other day I entered a giveaway hosted by Goodreads for and ARC of Firelight by Sophie Jordan. This is her YA debut book that comes out September 7 and the first seven chapters are online for your viewing pleasure here! As soon as I found out there were chapters I could read online, I immediately snagged that opportunity! And let me tell you, I couldn't stop reading and I didn't want to when I got to the end of the previewed pages! I was a little disappointed that I couldn't just go out to the store and pick it up. I didn't want to wait!

Imagine my surprise when 2 hours later I get an email from Goodreads saying I won the book and after only 2 days, 2 DAYS!, I got it in the mail!
So long story short, I'm so excited to read this book after getting my hands on the sample pages, I'm ecstatic that I won (this is my first ARC=advanced reader copy book), and now I'm going to ignore the rest of the world and spent the night reading it. I'll post a review once I'm done!

p.s.-You should really go read the sample pages and isn't the cover so pretty? (except for the glare that I couldn't get rid of ;p )

What about you guys? Ever made art for a book or wanted to see art for some? If so, what ones?

(p.s.-scanners never really due justice to sketched art :( oh well)

Review: Sisters Red

Book Description:
Scarlett March lives to hunt the Fenris-- the werewolves that took her eye when she was defending her sister Rosie from a brutal attack. Armed with a razor-sharp hatchet and blood-red cloak, Scarlett is an expert at luring and slaying the wolves. She's determined to protect other young girls from a grisly death, and her raging heart will not rest until every single wolf is dead.

Rosie March once felt her bond with her sister was unbreakable. Owing Scarlett her life, Rosie hunts fiercely alongside her. Now Rosie dreams of a life beyond the wolves and finds herself drawn to Silas, a young woodsman who is deadly with an ax-- but loving him means betraying her sister and has the potential to destroy all they've worked for.

I recently finished Sisters Red. I thought it was okay, I gave it a 3 out of 5 stars on my goodreads bookshelf-meaning I liked it and all but it didn't really stand out to be and shout awesome! I thought the whole fairy tale in a modern world feel/twist was cool, but it took me a long time to actually invest in the book and the characters.

I enjoyed the writing style, I liked the character of Silas, and I liked the close relationship between the sisters, but it still felt as if something was missing from it for me and it took about halfway through the book for me to really get into the story and care about finishing the book. But, by the end I was eager to find out how it ended and what happened.

All in all, I didn't dislike it but I didn't fall in love with it right away either. I did absolutely love the cover though! Sisters Red has a sequel, Sweetly, coming out sometime in 2011.
